"Making a contribution - offsetting carbon emissions
We understand that some of our customers wish to reduce their effect on the environment (carbon footprint). To enable this, we have worked in partnership with Climate Care to give you the opportunity to offset your share of the carbon emissions (CO2 ) produced when you fly.
Carbon footprint
A carbon footprint is the measurement of a person’s impact on the environment. Flying contributes emissions in the form of CO2 into the air. To offset these, the first step is to establish the customers’ share of emissions. This is calculated by dividing the total fuel used on a journey by the number of passengers on the flight. To neutralise these emissions, an equivalent saving of CO2 must be made elsewhere.
Climate Care
Climate Care Trust Limited are a company that sell CO2 reductions and fund projects around the world to avoid, reduce or absorb greenhouse gas emissions. The scheme works by allowing you, the air traveller, to balance or ‘offset’ your share of flying emissions with the same amount as Climate Care’s projects save.
Climate Care’s project principles are based on:
- renewable energy (for example, wind turbines, human-powered water pumps in India)
- energy efficiency (for example, fuel efficient cooking stoves in Mexico and Honduras, energy efficient lighting schemes in Kazakhstan and South Africa)
